About meI was born and raised in Southwestern Colorado. As a Colorado native, I have developed a deep appreciate for getting into the outdoors to camp, hike, ride, snowboard, ski, and kayak. My ideal day is filled cuddling my dogs, going outside to ride my horses, and reading a good book.
My EducationI graduated from Colorado State University in 2010 with a BSc in zoology with a minor in anthropology. I pursued my interest in animal behavior as a research assistant studying monkey sociality in Costa Rica and damselfly territoriality in Mexico. Throughout my adventures abroad and in the US, I have pursued teaching and outreach opportunities.
I continued my education receiving a master’s degree in Biological Anthropology in 2017 from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. I focused on how baby monkeys learn and grow. Now I just apply it to adolescent humans. Why Animas? My passion for science and teaching have led me back to Durango where I can combine my love of science and creativity to teach through project-based learning at AHS. What I enjoy about working at AHS is that I have the freedom to teach what I want. I love to dig into new things and become an expert. Over the last year I have become an expert in sleep patters, the way we see color, and a horticulturist. This year, my students were so passionate about collecting data for a voluntary research project (Riverwatch) I created a citizen scientists club. Now we meet weekly volunteering our time to a number of different research projects!
